SynOptics Communications, Inc. LattisCell(tm) Stand-alone ATM Switch and Connection Management System(tm) (CMS) Software Fact Sheet March 1993 PRODUCT OVERVIEW LattisCell(tm) is a 16-port stand-alone ATM switch that offers the low cost, small sizh- performance features required to speed the development of high-bandwidth applications such as imaging and to fuel the advance of client-server computing. Each of the 16 ports have dedicated 155 megabit per second (Mb/s) transmission speed, guaranteed by an aggregate internal switching speed of five gigabits per second (Gb/s). The Model 10104 ATM Switch, with multi-mode fiber ports, is aimed at campus backbone LAN applications where transmission lengths of up to two kilometers are needed. The Model 10104 is also useful in workgroup LANs when benefits of fiber optics, such security and immunty from noise, are desired. The Model 10102 ATM Switch, with its 12 shielded twisted pair ports, is aimed at workgroup LAN applications where users value the low cost per connection offered by STP. Four fiber ports permit the Model 10102 to be connected to fiber backbone switches such as the Model 10104. The LattisCell switches are compatible with ATM Forum specifications, as well as CCITT and T1S1 recommendations. Model 10102 With 12 STP and four fiber ports U.S. List Price Per Port: $1,495 Shipping Q3 1993 Model 10104 With 16 fiber ports U.S. List Price Per Port: $1,995 Shipping Q3 1993 Model 760 CMS Supports permanent virtual channels Shipping Q3 1993 U.S. List Price: No charge Model 761 CMS Supports switched and permanent virtual channels Shipping Q3 1993 U.S. List Price: $4,495 FEATURES AND BENEFITS Switches Based on Fast Matrix ATM(tm) Architecture with 5.0 Gb/s Irnal Bandwidth * Parallel switch architecture eliminates the contention found in bus-based architectures * Multiple paths between inputs and outputs minimize probability of blocking at switching element outputs * Distributed buffering prevents cells from being lost when switching element output blocking occurs * Multicast and broadcast capabilities support existing protocol and application software base Low-priced ATM Switching With a per-port U.S. list price of $1,495 for the Model 10102 and $1,995 for the Model 10104, the LattisCell switch is one-half to one-third the list price of competitive ATM switches. Switches are Compact and Lightweight Weighing less than 26 pounds and measuring only 17" wide, the LattisCell switch can easily sit on a desktop or mount in a standard wiring rack configuration. Wide Range of Physical Layer Interfaces The LattisCell switches employ the ATM Forum's 155 Mb/s, 8B/10B physical layer encoding. Future versions of the switches will support the ATM Forum's 155 Mb/s local SONET physical layer encoding. It is anticipated the local SONET will support multi-mode and single-mode fiber, STP and Category 5 unshielded twisted pair. Front panel LEDs and LCD The LattisCell switch provides an "at-a-glance" summary of its operational status. Three LEDs are provided on each port, which indicate the quality of the link and its administrative state. System- level LEDs provide indications of the operation of the fan and availability of power. An alphanumeric LED display indicates the overall state of the switch. Network LattisCell Switches for Larger Numbers of Ports and Network Level Redundancy Each port on the LattisCell switch automatically configures to be a UNI (end-station attachment) or a NNI (switch-to-switch) interface. There are no restrictions on the number of UNI or NNI interfaces to the switch. The resulting network can support up to 1,000 end-station attachments and form topologies that provide redundant paths through the network. Connection Management System Communications in an ATM network depend on the establishment of connections between users. The CMS management software supports the learning of the network topology, determining the optimum routes and the maintenance of connections within an ATM network. * Supports switched virtual circuits - for ease of use and optimum performance * Management of network resources, including bandwidth * Automatically configures the network - for easy installation and maintenance * Automatic routing of calls - supports network redundancy and reliability * Acts as a management proxy - locally gathers and filters management information before passing onto network management station.
